About Our School

The Children’s House is a Montessori pre-school founded in 1966 by a group of dedicated parents seeking to provide their young children with a superb foundation for creative, life- long learning through the educational procedure of Dr. Maria Montessori.

The educational philosophy of The Children's House is rooted in Dr. Maria Montessori's pedagogy (method of instruction or teaching) that centers on the belief that the period of life from 2 1/2 to 6 years old is a unique time in a child’s growth and development. A child will never again be able to amass, with such ease and little effort, the volume of information absorbed during this period. The young child, at this age must develop and refine his/her language, fine and gross motor skills, appropriate social skills, along with math and reading readiness to be prepared for the next stages of life.  The Montessori Method employs materials that are didactic (self-teaching) by design and the child learns the above mentioned concepts and principles by working with them. Lessons on the appropriate way to work with these materials are presented to the child by the teacher in a sequential order, progressing from simple to complex as the child masters the lesson at hand. Montessori materials also help nurture and then refine the child's eye-hand coordination and his concentration skills as he/she works in all curriculum areas (Practical Life, Sensorial, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Art).

At The Children’s House, everything we do and say magnifies our awe and respect for the child and for his work. We acknowledge that each child enters the classroom with varying levels of social and academic skills, and emotional and spiritual awareness. In a loving, caring atmosphere, we will present lessons and activities which will assist the child as he develops and refines his sense of self.
